Jarod reported to have been at the Soledad
Wind Power Research Area in Baja California, but had moved
on before team could intercept. An image taken by one of the
Centre's KH-11 satellites revealed that Jarod had used the
Centre's airstrip at La Grange in Virginia. Photos showed
that a Drahken Jet, believed to be piloted by Jarod, landed
undetected in the middle of the night. Preliminary
indications were that Jarod may have been in Washington D.C.
Centre technicians later received a headshot printout of Mr.
Raines by Jarod. Clearly, Jarod learned of existence of Mr.
Raines from the DSA's he stole. Unclear of exact nature of
Jarod's knowledge regarding Mr. Raines at this time. Jarod
later delivered an executable program allowing for direct
communication with Sydney. Jarod's encrypted transmission
used an old ARPA connection in Arizona, and the team was
deployed to the desert, but arrived too late. Inside a local
tavern, the Tail Fin Bar, Miss Parker discovered a picture
of Jarod on the "Wall of Fame." Bartender gave
Miss Parker a small box, with a 6x6 piece of Silly Putty
inside. Imprinted on the putty was a backward headline:
"Late Pilot Collins Cleared of Error."
Jarod's latest set of notebook clippings showed a picture of
a happy family, mother, son and husband with the headlines:
"Test Crash Ð Pilot Error?" "Collins Family
Struggles Alone." Sweepers found countless empty
receptacles for a multi-purpose children's toy commonly
referred to as "Silly Putty." According to
reconstruction, Jarod pretended to be a test pilot to prove
a top-gun pilot's crash was caused by a defense contractor's
new computer chip. The death of the pilot, Ronald "Hammer"
Collins, left his wife and young son Ronny without a pension
due to allegations that Collins had been flying while under
the influence of alcohol. Jarod uncovered the circumstances
surrounding the flier's death. The crash was not due to
pilot error but to a malfunction in SkyVionics' new Scimitar
System which caused the F-16 to enter into a deadly dive.
Pilot Tom "Barracuda" Mathews implicated because
he had knowledge of unsafe Scimitar System. Collins name
cleared and pension reinstated to his family.
